SUDANESE ENVOY BIDS FAREWELL TO EAC SECRETARY GENERAL
Affirms Bright Feature for The Sudan

His Excellency Abdelbagi H. Kabeir & EAC Secretary General, Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera 

East African Community Secretariat, Arusha, Tanzania, 21 June 2011: 
The outgoing Sudanese Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Abdelbagi H. Kabeir today bid farewell to the EAC Secretary General, Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.  Ambassador Abdelbagi Kabeir is returning to Khartoum after a 4-years service in Tanzania.

At the brief function, Ambassador Kabeir congratulated the Secretary General for assuming the mantle of steering the EAC regional integration process in the next 5 years. He further affirmed that the feature of Sudan was very bright with the pending creation of the new Republic of Southern Sudan, adding that “we see this whole process as reproduction of the family rather than a dis-integration”. The Sudanese Envoy was full of gratitude for the support rendered to him by the EAC Secretariat and the Partner States during his tour of duty in Tanzania.

The EAC Secretary General congratulated the people of Sudan for their continued engagement in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that was now leading to a rebirth of a new Nation in Africa; the Republic of Southern Sudan on 9 July 2011. “We are happy that the people of Sudan signed the CPA and we will continue to offer support to make sure any other outstanding issues under it (CPA) is resolved peacefully; asserted Amb. Sezibera.

The Secretary General urged the people of Sudan to continue navigating the ship towards peace and stability, “we will be watching the birth of a new state born out of the will of the people of Southern Sudan and we assure you that we shall continue to be your good neighbours” concluded the Secretary General.  

The Sudanese Government appointed H.E Abdelbagi Kabeir as its permanent representative to the East African Community in December 2010. While presenting his accreditation letter signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan to then EAC Secretary General on 1 December 2010, Ambassador Kabeir said “our vision is to talk about integration and unity and that is why I am here”. He said that his appointment was a manifestation of Sudan’s commitment to the region’s integration process and economic development.

H.E Abdelbagi Kabeir said that “without closer ties with our neighbors, we shall not have a better future for the development of our countries and my government will in future look at the possibility of becoming a member of the East African Community”.
