Bill Gates in meeting with Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will continue to assist Tanzania in research on health and agriculture sectors, it has been confirmed.
The Foundation co-chair, Mr Bill Gates, during talks with President Jakaya Kikwete at the State House in Dar es Salaam Tuesday, said they would continue to assist Tanzania if the latter presented their priorities to the foundation.
Mr Gates and his wife Melinda are in Tanzania on a private family trip.
A statement from President Kikwete’s assistant press secretary, Ms Premmy Kibanga, thanked Mr and Mrs Gates for the assistance they have been extending to the country.
Mr and Mrs Gates have visited Serengeti National Park and performed a number of other duties, including inspecting several projects which they have been supporting.
Meanwhile, President Kikwete left in the afternoon for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to attend the annual meeting of the Africa Union (AU), which will be chaired by President Teodoro Obiang' Nguema Mbasogo.
The main agenda of the meeting centres on empowerment of youth for development.
President Kikwete is expected back home on July 2.
